Remembering George Foreman, boxer, entrepreneur, and Meineke spokesperson
On March 21, 2025, George Foreman passed away at the age of 76.

George left behind a legacy that extends beyond the boxing ring. He was a legendary boxer, entrepreneur, and minister whose life was defined by resilience and reinvention. Born in 1949 in Marshall, Texas, he rose to fame as an Olympic gold medalist. As a professional he became a two-time heavyweight champion. His second championship was the result of an astonishing comeback in his late 30s – after a decade-long retirement – when he reclaimed the heavyweight title at age 45.
George was also a valued part of the Meineke family. Serving as a spokesperson from 1993 to 2010, he was an integral part of our brand’s identity. With his trademark smile, unwavering strength, and trusted persona, he helped define Meineke’s values and connect with customers in a way that few could.
His presence in our commercials and advertisements made the tagline, “You’re not gonna pay a lot for mufflers,” a household saying. Through his charismatic and larger-than-life personality, George made car care approachable, reinforcing the idea that customers could trust Meineke to deliver quality service at a fair price.
Beyond his contributions to our brand, George was also a symbol of reinvention. He stepped away from boxing and became a successful entrepreneur, minister, and motivational speaker, inspiring millions with his story of perseverance and faith. His ability to connect with people, whether in the ring, in a commercial, or at a speaking event, was unparalleled.
John Di Domenico interviewed George at the Meineke National Convention in 2022. He recalled: “When I asked him about his unwavering positivity, George's simple yet profound response was, ‘It's a choice. I choose to be positive.’”
To honor George’s incredible legacy, Meineke has launched a tribute campaign in select cities, featuring billboards with the message: “Thank You, George.”
Accompanied by an image of his signature red boxing gloves, this tribute serves as an acknowledgment of the impact George had on our brand and the lives he touched. His warmth, authenticity, and enduring strength will forever be part of the Meineke legacy.
