Meineke and Children's Miracle Network
Insight Magazine / July 15, 2009
In what has become an annual rite of spring for Meineke Car Care Centers, our 11th Annual Tournament for Champions golf outing in support of Children’s Miracle Network went off like clockwork, Wednesday, May 20th at Verdict Ridge Country Club located just north of Charlotte in Denver, NC.
A field of 133 players teed off under a cloudless blue sky and enjoyed golf, contests, prizes, a raffle, and silent auction coordinated by 24 volunteers from the Home Office. Between the players and volunteers, nearly everyone at Meineke Corporate had a hand in making the day a success.
Our annual golf tournament was truly a labor of love, complete with a barbecue dinner, silent auction, prize raffle, and awards reception (next page). During dinner, Meineke CEO Ken Walker and guest emcee, Jarod Latch, local WSOC-TV sports anchor, shared highlights from the day, as well as an update on Levine Children’s Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility in Charlotte.
Former patient Hunter Plott and his family expressed their gratitude to tournament participants and shared his LCH story. Hunter was just three days old when he endured his first open heart surgery. He fought a severe heart defect, collapsed lungs, and a failing kidney. Twelve years and 15 surgeries later, Hunter is thriving. He helped distribute awards and prizes and was all smiles when the tournament total was announced: an impressive $62,000, which will go to CMN and Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH).
Tournament Committee Chairpersons in particular deserve recognition, including Eve Cooper, Ali Foster, Sammy DiBenedetto, Suzanne Hughes, Corinne Gundersen, Bess Tomberlin, Dian Dickey, Regina Lewis, and Tom Kirby.
A special thanks is also due our major sponsors: Advance, AutoZone, Berry Network, Filpac, Hunter, NAPA, O’Reilly, Pronto, and Wyse Advertising. Each year the tournament gets better and Year 2009 was certainly no exception. We’re looking forward to another Meineke showstopper in 2010 when we present the 12th Annual Tournament for Champions. Keep an eye out for more information.
